Craig Venter the man who really sequenced the human genome attributes his use of Shotgun sequencing which allowed him achieve this feat to his use of Tinker Toys as a child.
Venter almost flunked High School, but scored in the top 1,000th percent on a military IQ entrance exam. In true scientific tradition the Noble Prize winner Watson, said what he wanted to do couldn't be done. Venter went ahead and did it. He proved the NIH National institute of health wrong. A classic case of rogue genius overcoming the establishment to make things happen.
Never underestimate the value of creativity, play and determination to change the world.
