This video is pretty interesting in explaining some of the fudge factors associated with CPI and and the GDP deflator. The whole series is very educational but a little difficult to navigate. Some pretty shocking stuff is in the videos and presented in a very matter of fact way.
I think that "are we in a recession" question will probably be put to rest for people after watching this series of videos.
